Since 1966 the LD Mountain Centre has equipped people who love the outdoors. Ranging from expeditions with pioneering ascents led by Sir Chris Bonnington and the UK`s top Himalayan summiter, Alan Hinkes OBE to school trips, World Challenge and Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes to those of us who just get to escape at the weekend or a few times a year. We also equip a wide range of travellers, from students on gap years to people on the trip of a lifetime. We have the passion, experience and equipment to suit.

The name LD Mountain Centre derives from the initials of Peter Lockie and Gordon Davison who started the business in 1966. One of the first shops dedicated to the needs of the outdoor enthusiasts and travellers, it quickly established an enduring reputation amongst this demanding clientele as the most professional outdoor specialist in the UK catering for walkers, climbers, skiers and snowboarders nation-wide.

Not content with starting the LD and stocking other brands, Gordon and Peter began designing, testing and manufacturing the finest and most functional outdoor clothing and equipment available. From this beginning in LD’s premises (our offices are the old sewing rooms) grew Berghaus (German for ‘mountain centre’, a brand that has been built up into one of the top international outdoor clothing and equipment companies.

Film production, broadcasting companies and contractors regularly turn to LD Mountain Centre for the correct clothing and equipment for screen stars, war correspondents and those working in the outdoors. The Police and Forces are also regular customers and can claim a 10% discount on presentation of a valid id card, our way of saying thank you to those doing difficult jobs.
