About Tanyataylor

Raised in Toronto, Tanya Taylor grew up surrounded by three generations of fiercely ambitious women whose purpose, strength, and optimism inspired her from an early age. Although Tanya had an entrepreneurial upbringing, she was equally encouraged to explore her creativity from a young age, from taking art classes to painting vibrant murals on the walls of her childhood home.

After graduating from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, Tanya realized her desire for creative exploration was not being fulfilled. On a whim, she pursued her passion for design by enrolling in a summer program at Central Saint Martins. From there, Tanya moved to New York City and graduated from the A.A.S. program at Parsons The New School for Design. Immediately following graduation, Tanya landed a coveted position interning at Elizabeth and James before advancing to assistant womenswear designer under the direction of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

After two years at the company, realizing she could have a career that blended her love of business with her desire for creative exploration, Tanya left to start her own brand. She launched her eponymous collection in 2012 at the age of 25.

Tanya’s artistic, thoughtful approach to fashion mixed with her determination and creativity made her instantly recognized as a rising star within the industry. A risk-taker at heart, Tanya continually looks for opportunities to break from the fashion status quo. She was the first designer to show at the Agnes Gund Garden Lobby in the Museum of Modern Art for her Spring 2013 collection, she launched inclusive sizing in 2017, and she has broken from NYFW traditions many times, choosing instead to use the dedicated time to hold luncheons with women leaders, premiere comedic videos, and promote timely causes such as voter registration for the 2020 presidential election.

A lifelong artist and woman business owner, Tanya’s focus on exciting colors and unexpected design elements blended with uncomplicated, feminine silhouettes have become her signature. Tanya was a top-ten finalist in the 2014 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund and was a member of the 2015-2016 Swarovski Collective. In 2014, Tanya won the Gold Coast Award and was nominated for the Fashion Group International's Rising Star Award. She was also named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List in the same year. In 2015, Tanya became an official member of the CFDA, and was awarded the USA Woolmark Regional Prize in recognition of innovation in knitwear, advancing to the International Woolmark Prize finals. Tanya was nominated for CAFA’s International Canadian Designer of the Year Award in 2016 and was honored with the award in 2020.

Tanya resides in New York City with her husband and two sons. If you spot her walking the streets in a colorful outfit with an iced oat latte in hand, don’t be shy - she loves to meet the women who inspire her to create.
